Domestic violence awareness month Family Crisis Center Rexburg

REXBURG – It is domestic violence awareness month and the Family Crisis Center is spreading the message on a local level. The Family Crisis Center says domestic violence affects all religions, all ages, and all nationalities. So not even Rexburg is immune to it, and that’s why the Family Crisis Center is trying to spread awareness. One of three relationships will be affected by domestic violence at least once, and a home is affected by domestic violence once every nine seconds in the nation. Staggering statistics for this day and age, and much of that attributed to victim acceptance. “They acclimate to a incorrect behavior. What is the abnormal becomes the normal. They almost need someone to identity that this is not appropriate behavior, no one deserves to be treated this way,” said Alesa Gulley with the Family Crisis Center. This month the Family Crisis Center will be spreading awareness through banners in the city, and by meeting with students to educate them an at early age. “It’s great to get awareness so victims know where they can go for help, and how they can change through growth, and how they can be empowered. And also help victims get the resources they need, whether it’s shelter, counseling, whether just letting them know somebody cares,” said Gulley. The Family Crisis Center is submitting a proclamation to Madison County Commissioners on Monday that will outline a stand against domestic violence in the county.
